A tankard from Globe Potteries, South Africa — confirmed by the impressed "GLOBE" mark on the base, the same maker as our basket vase and leaf dish, collected alongside Linn Ware and Lucia Ware in serious South African ceramics circles.

A muted, speckled turquoise-sage reactive glaze with subtle rust-brown variation, in a substantial handled tankard form.

Backstory

By its own auction house's account, Globe was eventually held back not by any lack of skill but by a lack of product innovation and ageing down-draft kilns — a studio that simply didn't evolve fast enough, even as the work itself stayed genuinely good.

This tankard's speckled turquoise-sage glaze, with its subtle rust-brown variation, is exactly the kind of restrained, mottled effect the studio was known for right up to the end.
