An ashtray from Crescent Potteries, marked on the base "779, Hand Painted, Crescent" — the Krugersdorp pottery established in 1952, whose master potter Albrecht Schließler ("Mr. Crescent") designed over a hundred different items during his time there.
The same striking sgraffito dancing figure and sunburst motif as our Crescent mug — carved through a dark slip to reveal the cream body beneath.
