A Beswick coffee and tea set — shape 2211, the same mould documented for Beswick's "Zorba" range designed by pottery designer Graham Tongue in the 1970s. This example is in a rich brown colourway with a textured spiral-and-triangle band around the base and a concentric-ring lid.

A genuinely complete set: both coffee pot and tea pot, plus 6 matching cups and saucers.

Very good condition overall, with one small chip to a saucer rim — see photos for detail.

Maker: Beswick, England (shape 2211, designed by Graham Tongue)

Backstory

Beswick is best known today for Beatrix Potter and Disney figurines — but in 1968, just before Royal Doulton acquired the company, designer Graham Tongue turned his attention to tableware instead. "Zorba" was the result: a bold, Greek-inspired pattern of circles and triangles pressed into geometric borders, produced through the early 1970s in olive green and this deep bronze-brown.

Tongue went on to become Beswick's head modeller in 1975, famous mainly for horse figurines — which makes this complete coffee pot, tea pot, and six cups and saucers a nice look at a lesser-known, more geometric side of his work.
