Crown Devon Musical "Sarie Marais" Jug

A genuine Crown Devon Fieldings musical "Sarie Marais" jug, made by the historic English pottery S. Fielding & Co in the 1930s as a special export edition for the South African market. The jug is decorated with a scene of a woman gazing out over the veld, bordered by mounted riders and palm trees, and printed with the complete lyrics to the beloved Afrikaans folk song "Sarie Marais." The handle is modelled as a striking lion, climbing the neck of the jug.

These pieces have a genuinely documented history — Crown Devon's founder toured South Africa in the 1930s, and General Jan Smuts, then Prime Minister of South Africa, was reportedly highly impressed by this exact jug. It remains one of the most sought-after of Crown Devon's musical export novelties today.

Fitted with a Swiss-made musical movement that plays the "Sarie Marais" tune. Tested and confirmed working. No damage.
